Why one single arrives in several versions

Streaming services now list a Korean single several times over: an original, an English or bilingual cut, an instrumental, and increasingly a sped-up edit. The practice hardened after 2023, when short-video apps made faster, higher-pitched edits the way many listeners first encountered a song. FIFTY FIFTY sat near the centre of that shift — ‘Cupid’ travelled abroad largely through its English ‘Twin Version’ and the sped-up edits that circulated afterwards, and the song reached the Billboard Hot 100. Agencies drew the obvious conclusion and began issuing those alternate cuts themselves rather than leaving them to listeners.
