‘Forever July’ went up on 선미’s own YouTube channel as a digital single, with a description that carries little more than hashtags and one streaming link. She has now been releasing under her own name for longer than she spent in the group that introduced her.

The American attempt, fifteen years early

Sunmi debuted in 2007 with Wonder Girls, a JYP Entertainment group that made the first serious Korean push into the United States. In 2009 the members moved there, opened for the Jonas Brothers on a North American tour, and an English version of “Nobody” became the first song by a Korean act to enter the Billboard Hot 100. It did not turn into a lasting American career, and the years spent abroad cost the group its position at home. Sunmi left in early 2010 to return to school. Korean agencies drew hard lessons from that period about what exporting an act actually requires.

About this release

‘Forever July’ is a digital single, published 15 July 2026 on the artist’s official channel. The description lists no producer, writer or featured performer — only the release title, a link tree for streaming, and pointers to the SUNMI and ABYSS COMPANY official accounts. ABYSS COMPANY is the agency she records under.

Watching from outside Korea

The link tree in the description is the fastest route to whichever streaming service you already use; Korean digital singles are generally released worldwide on the same day. A digital single usually means no physical edition, so there is nothing to import.
