Lim Young Woong has released a new single called “ToTo” (또또), with the music video uploaded to the 1theK channel. He is one of the biggest solo acts working in Korea today, and he arrived there by a route almost no K-pop artist takes.
트로트, the genre that predates K-pop by decades
Lim Young Woong came up through trot (트로트), a Korean popular style with roots in the early twentieth century and a distinctive vocal technique built on a heavy, deliberate vibrato. For decades it was treated as music for older listeners — the sound of noraebang rooms and provincial festivals rather than the charts. That changed when televised trot audition programmes turned its singers into national figures, and Lim, who won one of them, became the clearest example. Trot singers are not idols: no group, no fandom colour by default, no seven-year contract structure. They are individual vocalists, and their careers can run for decades.
About this release
“ToTo” (또또) is a new single from Lim Young Woong, published on 7 September 2026 KST. The music video was distributed through 1theK (원더케이), a channel whose view counts are officially recognised by Korean music broadcasters for their weekly rankings. The official description carries no producer, writer or featured-artist credits, so no further personnel details can be confirmed here.
Watching from outside Korea
또 (tto) means “again” in Korean, so 또또 reads as a doubling of it — a playful repetition rather than a literal phrase. Titles like this rarely translate cleanly, and English-subtitled versions of trot releases are less common than for idol pop.
