Bands and idol groups live in different worlds here

SORAN are a band, not an idol group, and in Korea that places them on a largely separate circuit. Idol acts are built by agencies through trainee systems and sustained by album sales and fan platforms; bands like SORAN come up through live clubs in areas such as Hongdae, book their own tours, and depend on streaming and ticket revenue rather than fandom purchasing. The industry even splits its awards this way, with band categories judged apart from idol ones. Both are exported as “K-pop” abroad, but domestically the two scenes have different venues, different audiences and different economics.
