The four members and their avatars

When SM Entertainment launched aespa in 2020, the concept was that each of the four members — Karina, Giselle, Winter, Ningning — had a digital counterpart called an æ, living in a virtual world the company named KWANGYA, with the early songs narrating a conflict between the two sides. The stylised æ in the group’s name comes from that. Most listeners ignored the lore and took the music, which turned out to be the point: the storyline gave SM a licence to make the songs as strange as they liked.

About this release

“Rich Man” leads the six-track mini album of the same name, published 5 September 2025. Four more aespa videos are posted on this board, covering the 2026 album LEMONADE and their first Japanese release.

Watching from outside Korea

Elaborate fictional universes are standard equipment for SM groups and you are not expected to keep up. Treat the lore as set dressing unless you want it.
