Signing to a Japanese major

The large Korean agencies run their own subsidiaries in Tokyo and keep the whole operation in-house. A smaller company cannot, so it partners — and the partner it finds tells you what it is aiming at. Warner Music Japan is a Japanese major with Japanese rock and pop distribution, not a K-pop pipeline. For a band whose selling point is that it plays, that is a more useful set of doors than an idol-market rollout would open.

“SHOW DOWN” was published on 8 July 2026 as QWER’s Japan debut digital single, credited jointly to 3Y Corporation and Warner Music Japan. It has passed 9 million views, the highest of the band’s videos on this board.

Watching from outside Korea

Japan has a deep domestic rock scene that Korean dance acts have never really competed in. A Korean band walking into that market through a Japanese label is a genuinely different move, and worth watching.
