영파씨 (YOUNG POSSE) have released the music video for ‘GO해’, their third digital single. The title is built from two languages, and the group’s own hashtags tell you how it is meant to be read.
해, the ending that turns an English word into a Korean verb
해 is the casual form of 하다, the Korean verb “to do”. Korean uses 하다 as a hinge: attach it to a noun and you get a working verb, which is how 공부 (study) becomes 공부하다, and borrowed English words slot in by the same rule. Reduced to a plain, informal command, 하다 becomes 해 — so ‘GO해’ is an English verb wearing a Korean ending, closer to “go on, then” than to a bare “go”. The group spell the intended English out in their own tag: #GO_AHEAD, with 해 (romanised hae) tucked into the final syllable.
About this release
‘GO해’ is billed in the official description as the group’s 3rd digital single, with a 6pm KST release. The video is credited to the director Korlio. It sits on the channel carrying the group’s own name rather than an agency-wide account, and the posted hashtags include a Japanese rendering of the name, ヤングパッシ.
Watching from outside Korea
Korean releases are catalogued under the Korean name first, so a search for 영파씨 turns up more than the roman spelling does. The katakana tag works the same way on a Japanese interface, and both lead back to this channel.
