Why a soloist gets a mini album and not an LP

Korean labels count solo releases in minis. A mini album — the local term for an EP — usually runs five to seven tracks, and a soloist may put out three or four of them before anyone discusses a full-length. The logic is scheduling rather than ambition: a soloist who also belongs to a group has to fit recording between group promotions, and a shorter tracklist can be written, cut and promoted inside a gap of a few weeks. It also keeps the artist visible more often. Numbering them — first mini, second mini, third mini — turns the sequence itself into a public record of a solo career.
