A debut EP is not the same as a debut album

Korean releases are labelled by size, and the label carries real meaning. An EP — often called a mini album here — usually runs four to six tracks, against ten or more for a full-length. Almost no Korean group debuts with a full album. The mini is cheaper to record, faster to promote, and short enough that a new group can rehearse every track for television. Groups typically put out several minis over their first years and only attempt a full album once the audience is proven. So “1st EP” is not a modest version of something bigger; it is the standard opening move.
