아이우에오 (A I W E O) have released the official music video for ‘생채기’, a song from their first EP, [BE MY HUG]. The clip is hosted on the act’s own YouTube channel, which also carries the copyright line for the release.

생채기 is a graze, not a wound

생채기 names one specific kind of injury: a shallow scratch on the skin, the sort left by a fingernail, a thorn or a sheet of paper. Korean keeps these apart carefully — 상처 covers wounds in general, 흉터 is the scar left behind, and 생채기 stays small and on the surface. The 생 at the front is the same 생 found in 생고기 (raw meat), 생맥주 (draught beer) and 생방송 (live broadcast): raw, fresh, unprocessed. It is ordinary spoken Korean rather than a literary word, which is why translations usually render it plainly as “scratch”.
