World Cup Park (월드컵공원)

Seoul 243-60 World Cup-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul Opened on May 1st, 2002, the Wolrd Cup Park was once a 15-year-old landfill that held over 92 million tons of garbage. The park is located near Seoul World Cup Stadium, and is made up of five smaller parks - Pyeonghwa (Peace) Park, Haneul (Sky) Park, Noeul (Sunset) Park, Nanjicheon Park, and Nanji Hangang Park. * Pyeonghwa Park: Closest to Seoul World Cup Stadium, it holds a pond, garden, children’s playground, and forest. As a representative park of World Cup Park, the park was designed in hopes of peace and harmony between mankind and nature. It is often used as a picnic area and place for nature studies. * Nanji Hangang Park: Nanji Hangang Park was developed on the banks of the Hangang River. In contrast to other Hangang River parks, Nanji Hangang Park is a water-friendly park that has a gradual slope towards the riverbank. The park consists of a camping ground, soccer field, basketball court, grass field, cruise ship port, and an area for nature studies. * Haneul Park: Haneul Park consists of vast grassland located at the highest elevation of the five parks. The park's pasture is covered with eulalias and wild flowers in their most natural state. In addition, 30,000 butterflies of different species were introduced in 2000 to stabilize the ecosystem. Five wind-powered generators provide power to the park and the park’s maintenance office. Once a mountain of garbage, it is now a green hill with 22 lookout points offering breathtaking views of Seoul, including the N Seoul Tower, Bukhansan Mountain, and Hangang River. Tall trees are line the park to provide shades and serve as resting spots for visitors. As a popular spot to enjoy the sight of eulalias, the park usually remains open until late in the evening during the Eulalia Festival period. * Noeul Park: In order to prevent the vast area of land of what was once a wasteland from becoming an unnecessary chunk of land, a nine-hole golf course was constructed in what is now known as Noeul Park. The golf course serves as an environment friendly entertainment park to visitors while stabilizing the geographical formation and has an urban park nearby that offers scenic views of the Hangang River and beautiful sunset. Located west of the golf park is Noeul Square, decorated with shrubs and flowers. * Nanjicheon Park: Nanjicheon Park was developed from the Nanji Stream, which flowed under Haneul Park. It was once overflowing with sewage runoff from a nearby landfill, but it has since been beautifully restored into a park with clear water. The park is built to serve as a recreational spot for those with for youths, elders, and people with disabilities.

Woraksan National Park (월악산국립공원)

Chungcheongbukdo 1647, Mireuksonggye-ro, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Woraksan National Park is located along the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range between Sobaeksan and Songnisan Mountains. The rugged mountain is softened by the waterfalls and small pools found within the valleys. The area was designated as a national park on December 31, 1984. The mountain is surrounded by Chungjuho Lake to the north, the Eight Scenic Views of Danyang and Sobaeksan Mountain to the east, and Mungyeongsaejae Pass and Songnisan Mountain to the south. The main peak of Woraksan National Park is Yeongbong Peak, reaching an altitude of 1,097 meters above sea level. The path there is steep, with sections of rock stretching 150 meters in x_height. There is also a 4-kilometer-long path circling the base rock.

Woosooyoung Tourist Attractions (우수영관광지)

Jeollanamdo 12, Gwangwang leisure-ro, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do Woosooyoung Tourist Attractions area became a national tourist site in 1986, and Memorial Park of Admiral Yi was added in 1991, serving as an educational site. The area overlooks Uldolmok, and features a shrine from the past that commemorates the great victory that was achieved by Admiral Yi Sun-Sin in the Battle of Myeongnyang (1597) and a large geobukbae (turtle ship). The area hosts a history festival every October and covers many history-related experience programs throughout the year.

Wonseong Seongnam-ri Tutelary Forest (원성 성남리 성황림)

Gangwondo Seongnam-ri, Sillim-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do The Tutelary Forest in Sillim-myeon, Wonju is a temperate hardwood forest designated as a Natural Monument in 1962, and offers eco-exploration of the tutelary forest as well as forest commentary, meditation and experience programs. More than 90 different species of tree plants grow over an area spanning some 312,993 m2. The people of Seongnam-ri have treated Seonghwangsin of Chiaksan Mountain as the patron saint of the village since the ancient times. It is said that, at midnight of April 8 and September 9 every year on the Lunar calendar, people held rituals in front of the huge fir tree (29 meters tall, 1.3 meters in diameter, 300 years old) standing in front of Seonghwangdang Shrine to which Seonghwangsin descends.The Tutelary Forest is divided into two sections, each with different species of trees, by a brook in the middle. The area located to the left of the brook grows a variety of acervate deciduous broad-leaved trees, many of which are maple trees that paint the season of fall with gorgeous colors.

Wonju Sogeumsan Ulleong Bridge (원주 소금산 울렁다리)

Gangwondo 12 Sogeumsan-gil, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do Sogeumsan Ulleong Bridge is approximately twice as long as the original Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, stretching 404 meters long, 2 meters wide. The name Ulleong comes from a Korean word that means "shaky" or "anxious," a feeling visitors will have as they cross the bridge with some parts being glass bottom. Wonju Sangwonsa Temple (상원사(원주)

Gangwondo 930, Seongnam-ro, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do Sangwonsa Temple is located at the foot of Namdaebong Peak (1,182 m) on the southern tip of Chiaksan Mountain and is built atop a flat rock floor with an area of around 330 m2. Cool spring water shoots up from a crack on a rock before the temple and a 40 meter-tall cliff is located in front of it while three rare katsura trees stand at the tip of the cliff. The story of a pheasant returning a favor, which became the origin tale of Chiaksan, is a myth created at this temple.Though it is not clearly known when Sangwonsa was first constructed, it is believed to have been built during the Silla Dynasty considering the stone pagodas and other relics at the temple. The two stone pagodas in front of the sanctuary add greater magnificence to the beauty of the Buddhist temple in the heart of an old mountain. The temple is designated as a Gangwon-do Cultural Heritage Material.

Wonju Bangye-ri Ginkgo Tree (원주 반계리 은행나무)

Gangwondo 42 Banjeori 2-gil, Munmak-eup, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do The ginkgo tree in Bangye-ri, Wonju has been protected as a natural monument since its designation on January 31, 1964. The exact age of the tree is unknown, but it is estimated to be over 800 years old. The tree reaches a total x_height of 33 meters, with a crown stretching 37.5 meters east-west, and 31 meters north-south. According to the legend about the tree's origin, it was planted by a member of the Seongju Lee family, who stopped for a drink of water here and left his staff standing in the ground when he left. The staff then grew into the tree. Another legend about the tree states there is a white snake living in the tree, which is why it has grown so strong and big today. The local farmers believe they will have a good harvest if the whole tree turns gold in fall.

A dense forest, pristine waters and numerous rock formations in the vicinity all provide a beautiful scenery. The downstream area of the valley holds a large amount of water and it is a popular place for vacationers and visitors all year round. The forest park contains a wide variety of trees, some of which grow naturally while others have been more recently planted. In particular, the 1.7-kilometer section of the valley that stretches from the entrance to the resort area boasts breathtaking scenery and is lined with weigela and wild cherry trees. The park is carpeted with various wild flowers such as dicentra, columbine and hepatica, and wild animals such as water deer, wild boars, and raccoons are easily spotted.
