House of Choi Seung-hyo (최승효가옥)

Gwangju 29-4, Yangchon-gil, Nam-gu, Gwangju The House of Choi Seung-hyo is a traditional residential building located on the southeastern slopes of Yangnimsan Mountain. The rectangular building is open to the east, has 8 kan (the space between two pillars) in the front and 4 kan to the sides, and is graced by a traditional hipped and gabled roof. Since the building was constructed in the 1920s, it offers a valuable glimpse into the architectural style of Korean houses at the end of the Japanese colonial period. Choi Sang-hyeon was an activist who offered his attic as a place of refuge for other activists.

Hyusimjeong (휴심정)

Gwangju 611-25 Imbangul-daero, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Hyusimjeong is a multicomplex complete with Second One, a bakery cafe; Oat, a restaurant offering fusion cuisine; a pop-up store zone; and a gallery; all surrounded by a large garden, creating the perfect location for rest. The garden appears to be in bloom all year round thanks to the advanced landscaping that mixes over 28 species of trees and 30 species of flowering grasses.

Hwanbyeokdang Pavilion (환벽당)

Gwangju 10, Hwanbyeokdang-gil, Buk-gu, Gwangju Hwanbyeokdang Pavilion was built by Yeongcheonja Sinjam and was also called Byeokgandang, which is recorded in Go Gyeong-myeong's Yuseoseongnok. The building has a hipped-and-gabled roof with three bays in the front space and two bays in the inside space. It is a modified form in which the two rooms in the middle are used as rooms, and the front and right sides are floors. Originally, it was a traditional pavilion, but it seems to have changed to its current form as it was expanded later. A tablet written by Uam Song Si-yeol hangs here, and the poems of Seokcheon Im Eok-ryeong and Jo Ja-i are on a signboard. There are two poems written by Jeong Cheol about Hwanbyeokdang Pavilion, which are published in Songgangsokjip and Gwangjumokji. Jeong Cheol's 4th-generation descendant Jeong Su-hwan bought it from Kim Yun-je's descendants, and Yeon Il-jeong's family is currently managing it.

Gwangjuhyanggyo Confucian School (광주향교)

Gwangju 5 Jungang-ro 107beon-gil, Nam-gu, Gwangju-si Hyanggyo was a national educational institution during the Joseon dynasty, where the tablets of distinguished Confucian scholars were enshrined, and rituals were held in their honor. In spring and fall, it hosts Seokjeon, a ritual honoring Confucius, along with Seodang (traditional Confucian school) experiences and traditional weddings, offering opportunities to immerse in Confucian culture. In summer, crape myrtle flowers bloom, and in fall, the old ginkgo tree turns golden yellow, beautifully contrasting with the traditional Joseon-style hanok architecture.

Gwangjuho Lake Eco Park (광주호 호수생태원)

Gwangju Chunghyo-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Gwangjuho Lake Eco Park is an ecological park located near the banks of Gwangjuho Lake, featuring a Nature Observation Center, Nature Learning Center, Lawn Area, and Waterside Wetland. The park is home to around 170,000 wildflowers and over 3,000 trees, offering opportunities to observe various flora and fauna up close. Visitors can witness diverse birds thriving in the wetlands.

Gwangjuho Lake (광주호)

Gwangju Chunghyo-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Gwangjuho Lake is located at the base of the Mudeungsan Mountain, which creates a beautiful view. Many people come to the lake not only for the relaxing setting, but also for fishing. Near the upper stream of the lake there are beautiful arbors built during the Joseon dynasty that display the traditional garden culture of that time. One of these arbors is the Sikyeongjeong Pavilion, a historic site written about by Jeong Cheol, a famous statesman and poet during Joseon dynasty.

Gwangju Wongaksa Temple (원각사(광주))

Gwangju 197 Jungang-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju Gwangju Wongaksa Temple, a branch temple of Suncheon Seonggwangsa Temple, is part of the Jogye order of Korean Buddhism in Gwangju. Bustling with visitors, the temple offers various events, cultural activities, and Buddhist ceremonies for visitors.

Gwangju Songjeong-dong Tteokgalbi Street (광주 송정동 떡갈비 골목)

Gwangju Gwangsan-ro 29beon-gil, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Tteokgalbi Street in Gwangju Songjeong-dong is lined with around 20 restaurants specalizing in tteokgalbi (grilled galbi patties). The area is a popular place to eat for locals and tourists alike, with many people visiting both during the week and the weekend. The tteokgalbi here stands out from tteokgalbi found in other regions in a few ways. Most places use 100% beef in the patties, but Songjeong-dong tteokgalbi uses a mix of beef and pork. This change was made in the 90s in order to keep the prices the same during a tough financial season. The restaurants here also serve a bone broth soup with the meal, made from boiling pork bones with kelp and radish for over a long period of time.

Gwangju Sajik Park (사직공원 (광주))

Gwangju 49, Sajik-gil, Nam-gu, Gwangju Sajik Park is located at the previous site of Sajikdan Altar, a ritual site to pray for peace and prosperity during the Three Kingdoms Era. In the 1960s, the site was home to Sajik Zoo, with the ritual being abandoned in 1894 and the altar in disrepair. However, in 1991, it was decided to move the zoo to another location and begin restoring the site. It was reopened in April 1994, 100 years after the last ritual. Sajik Park is landscaped with various trees and flower beds. The park blooms pink and white with cherry blossoms annually in mid-April. During this time, the municipality of Gwangju installs lighting in the trees for citizens to enjoy the blossoms late into the night. The park has become established as a favorite rest area for Gwangju citizens. The park houses several attractions including Gwangju Broadcast Station (KBS), Memorial Tower for Policemen, Yangpajeong Pavilion, and Palgakjeong Pavilion overlooking downtown Gwangju.

Gwangju Pyeongchon Village (광주 평촌마을)

Gwangju 15 Pyeongchon-gil, Buk-gu, Gwangju Gwangju Pyeongchon Village, located north of Mudeungsan Mountain, is a cozy farming village made up of four villages Dongrim, Daman, Woosung, and Dangmoe. The village still has an excellence natural preservation, growing environmental-friendly rice in the fields and Punamcheon stream that runs through the middle of the village is home to fireflies and otters. The village also keeps the tradition of making pottery as the village was the place that made grayish-blue-powdered celadon during the Joseon dynasty. The village street corner offers visitors to Mudeungsan Mountain a place to rest with Mudol-gil shelter and Bandi lodging.

Gwangju Park (광주공원)

Gwangju 15 Jungang-ro 107beon-gil, Nam-gu, Gwangju Gwangju Park, an urban Park in Gwangju, is a popular recreational spot among residents. Home to a memorial tower honoring the victims of the April 19 Revolution, Gwangju Municipal Museum, and a citizens’ hall, the park is a space where traditions and modernity coexist. Filled with trees and flower plants, it boasts beautiful scenery, especially in April, when cherry blossoms adorn the park. Nearby attractions include Gwangju Sajik Park, Asia Culture Center, and Gwangju Yangdong Market, with a stream flowing in front of the park.

Gwangju Chungjang-ro KPOP STAR Street(광주 충장로 케이팝 스타의 거리)

Gwangju 94 Chungjang-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju J-hope Hope WorldThis street was created to commemorate K-pop stars from Gwangju. Within the street, there are murals depicting singers' album jackets, benches decorated with song titles, handprints, and sculptures. After j-hope personally stopped by the bench decorated with the theme of a BTS song and posted a proof shot, it became a holy place for fans. It is one of the essential courses that 'ARMY' cannot miss because he left a message of appreciation and impressions of visiting this place.

Gwangju Art Street (광주 예술의 거리)

Gwangju 24, Yesul-gil, Dong-gu, Gwangju Gwangju Art Street is aimed at developing Gwangju’s traditional art scene through exhibition of local work. The street is 300m long and located behind Jungang Elementary School, nearby Gwangju Dongbu Police Station. Items commonly found here include Korean fine art such as paintings, ceramics, writings, and industrial art. Every Saturday, an art flea market famous for its unique pieces is held here. People from all over the nation gather to display items that include old calligraphy materials, collector coins, stone hairbrushes, Chinaware, wooden sculptures, folk drawings, classic books, ink, and incense burners. Part of the attraction is the stories the collectors share with each part of their collection. Enjoy the many shows and exhibitions that draw regular crowds to this famous road. The Mudeung art exhibit operates according to districts, and functions as a cultural festival as well. The outdoor exhibition was built in February 1995, and is open throughout the day. The large exhibition space has 32 booths and regularly holds special exhibits. Many regional cultural treasures are also on display here. Every Saturday, the Street of Fine Arts is blocked from traffic, and people gather to share and enjoy art culture. Gwangju Summer Universiade will be held this summer, 2015.

Gwangju 123 Cheomdangwagi-ro, Buk-gu, Gwangju Green Energy Experience Hall is located within the Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Energy Agency. Here, visitors can learn about the importance of energy conservation and discover methods to save energy in everyday life. Key facilities include the Green Energy Experience Hall, the Outdoor Experience Hall, and the LED Exhibit Hall. Admission is free, and the center welcomes visitors aged five years and older.

Gossaumnori Theme Park (고싸움놀이테마파크)
