Camellia Hill (카멜리아힐)

Jejudo 166 Byeongak-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do Camellia Hill is a camellia arboretum that was created on a 172,000 square meter plot of land in Sangchang-ri, Jeju-do. The arboretum is home to 6,000 camellia trees of 500 different species including species that are known to produce the world’s largest and earliest blossoms. In addition to camellia trees, the arboretum also boasts palm trees, wildflowers, and other plants as well as a sprawling grass plaza and an ecological pond. Auxiliary facilities include a gallery exhibiting camellia-themed crafts and a multipurpose seminar room. Byeoldobong Peak (Beri Oreum) (별도봉(베리오름))

Jejudo Seonban-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Situated in the east of Hwabuk 1-dong and along the coast, Byeoldobong is a parasitic mountain made of siliciclastic sedimentary rocks and lava. Its northern slope is dominated by steep cliffs where a large rock called Jasalbawi Rock (Suicide Rock) is located. At the bottom of the cliffs are Goraegul Cave (Whale Cave) and an oddly-shaped rock that looks like a mother carrying her child on her back. Despite being only 136m high, Byeoldobong is home to Jangsu Trail, a walking path that stretches over 1.8km around coastal cliffs, overlooking the ocean. Considered the most pleasant trail on Jeju Island, it offers a spectacular view of numerous peaks, Jeju Port and its nearby villages, and the emerald-blue sea. Naturally, it is a popular tourist destination for family visitors and couples.

Biyangdo Island (비양도)

Jejudo 146, Hallimhaean-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Meaning “to fly over,” Biyangdo Island is the last-formed volcanic island in Jeju (1002). It remains in its original form as a parasitic volcano and it is located in the center of an uncontaminated area of the sea having abundant fishing grounds with varied fish species. The island has many natural formations, including Biyangbong Peak, featuring six mysterious peaks, two craters, and a rock formed like a mom carrying her baby on her back. Jejudo Yeonpyeong-ri, Udo-myeon, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Biyangdo Island is a very small island connected to Udo Island by a thin strip of land, negating the need to take a boat to visit. Originally an uninhabited island, the villagers from Joil-ri stacked rocks across the 120 meter distance to make the island accessible. Bijarim Forest (비자림)

Jejudo 55 Bijasup-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju-do Designated and protected as a Natural Monument, Bijarim Forest is home to 2,800 bija trees, ranging from 500 to 800 years in age, spread over 448,165㎡ land area. These majestic trees range from 7-14 meters in x_height, 50-110 centimeters in diameter, and 10-15 meters in crown x_width, so this forest is quite a rare example of its kind in the world. The berries of bija trees were used widely as a medicine used to kill parasites, while the wood was used to make premium furniture and go boards. Forest bathing in a bija forest helps to combat arteriosclerosis, mitigate physical and psychological fatigue, and restore the body’s rhythm.

Jejudo Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do With a total length of 4,481 meters, Bengdwigul Cave is shaped like a maze and has one of the most complex lava tube structures in the world. For geologists, this cave is invaluable since it demonstrates how lava continuously flowed over the surface of the ground and the complex route it took to eventually form a tube deep underground. Created particularly close to the earth’s surface, this cave has a number of entrance holes to the tunnel. Inside, the complex structure of the cave unfolds in the form of double-tiered or triple-tiered rooms. A range of lava formations such as lava columns and lava bridges have developed inside this mystical tube. * The UNESCO World Heritage designated Geomunoreum Lava Tube System of Bengdwigul, Manjanggul Cave, Gimnyeonggul, Yongcheondonggul and Dangcheomuldonggul Caves.

5.16 Tree Tunnel (Road 5.16 Forest Tunnel) (5.16도로숲터널)

Jejudo 267-110 Sillyecheon-ro, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do The 5.16 Road is the first national highway of Jeju and connects the cities of Jeju and Seogwipo. Drive the winding road toward Seogwipo to the points about 2.6 to 1.2 kilometers at a distance from Hallasan Seongpanak Rest Area to reach a tree tunnel shaped like an arch made with evergreen trees and deciduous trees. At the northern entrance to the tree tunnel, there is a sign reading, “The road is more beautiful if you drive slowly.” The road here is narrow and has many curves, causing a risk of accidents, so drivers should be careful. Another reason to slow down while driving on this road is to appreciate the surrounding scenery. Located at the foot of Hallasan Mountain, the road provides various aspects of nature throughout the four seasons. Trees that extend out from both sides of the road and are bent as if embracing the sky provide cool shade in the summer, red leaves in the fall, and dazzling snow scenes in the winter. The 5.16 Tree Tunnel presents picturesque four seasons of Jeju.
