Dongdaemun History & Culture Park (동대문역사문화공원)

Seoul 281 Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul Dongdaemun History & Culture Park is a park established on the former site of the Dongdaemun Stadium. It serves as a thematic park showcasing the history and culture of Seoul, while also providing a space to experience modern design and culture. During the park's development in 2008, numerous artifacts from the Joseon dynasty, including The Two Floodgates, the Chiseong Castle, Military Training Agency, and over 1,000 relics from the Joseon era, were excavated. Alongside the park, there is the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and the Relic area.

Dak hanmari (whole chicken soup), literally “one whole chicken” in Korean, is a dish where a whole chicken is boiled in a soup and served with the alley’s special sauce. After the diners eat the meat, the broth is used to make kalguksu (noodle soup). Because the area is home to large-scale apparel and fashion material markets of the Dongdaemun Market, the district is always lively and bustling.

Dongbu Warehouse (동부창고)

Chungcheongbukdo 314, Sangdang-ro, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do Dongbu Warehouse, once a tobacco leaf warehouse of an old tobacco manufacturing factory, was recreated as a cultural and art space through the cultural regeneration project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It currently maintains the original form of the factory warehouse and has great preservation value as a modern cultural heritage built with red bricks and wooden truss. This attractive cultural space, which contains the modern and contemporary looks of the 1900s, provides various programs such as planned performances and festivals, as well as a space rental.

Domaryeong Pass (도마령)

Chungcheongbukdo Jodong-ri, Yonghwa-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Domaryeong Pass is an 800 m-long pass at the foot of Minjujisan Mountain, connecting the Hwanggang-myeon area of Yeongdong-gun with Muju. The name of the pass, "Doma," refers to how a general with a sword (do) had crossed over the pass on a horse (ma) in the past. This curving road is quite famous as a destination for drives. One can get a bird’s-eye view of the pass and the curving road from the Sangyongjeong Pavilion at the top of the pass.

Dolsanhang Port (돌산항)

Jeollanamdo 26, Mangwoldae-gil, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do Dolsanhang Port is located on Dolsando Island in Gunnae-ri, Yeosu-si. It is a famous market for live fresh fish and a distribution center for seafood in the area. Yeosu local seafoods such as cuttlefish, octopus, and rock bream are available, however only wholesale auction is available. Regular visitors must purchase seafood through a middleman.

Dolsando Island (돌산도)

Jeollanamdo Dolsan-eup, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do Dolsando is the seventh largest island in Korea and is connected to the mainland via Dolsan Bridge. Ever since construction was completed on December 15, 1984, the 450 meter-long, 11.7 meter-wide bridge has become a popular tourist attraction. There is plenty to see on Dolsando Island including numerous scenic spots and historic sites such as Dolsan Park, Musulmok Battlefield, Jeollanam-do Fisheries Exhibition Hall, Bangjukpo Beach, Hyangiram Hermitage, and Eunjeogam Hermitage. Located beneath Dolsan Bridge is a life-sized model of a Geobukseon (Turtle Ship), which played an important role in the Korean Navy’s victories during the Imjinwaeran War (1592-1598). Visitors will also find plenty of seafood restaurants lining the paved coastal road.

Dolsandaegyo Bridge (돌산대교)

Jeollanamdo 3617-7, Dolsan-ro, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do Dolsandaegyo Bridge in Yeosu connects Dolsan Island to the mainland, and is a representative attraction of the city, lit up in many colored lights at night. The island of Dolsan is said to be a fortress in the ocean, and protected the nation from invaders and pirates during the Joseon dynasty. Construction on the bridge began in 1980 and was completed in 1984, with Dolsan Park being founded on the hilltop above the bridge in celebration of the bridge opening.

Dolsan Park (돌산공원)

Jeollanamdo 3600-1, Dolsan-ro, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do Dolsan Park, located across from Dolsan Bridge, was created in 1987 on land spanning over 287,000 square meters. A teahouse inside the park was originally a TV drama shooting set. The teahouse offers a fine view of Dolsan Bridge, so visitors often stop by to drink tea while enjoying the view. The view point at the park also overlooks magnificent sunsets over Dolsan Bridge and exquisite night views of Dolsan Bridge, Marine Park, and Janggundo Island. The Memorial Time Capsule, containing various materials related to the merger of Yeosu city, was buried at the center of park in 1994 and will be opened in 2094.

Dolmeori Beach (돌머리해변)

Jeollanamdo 614, Jupo-ro, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do Dolmeori Beach is located at the westernmost point of Hampyeong-eup on a rocky tip, giving the beach its name Dolmeori, meaing a rock head. Near the beach, there is a dense forest of sweet smelling pine trees and fresh water which is shallow enough for swimming. Although the difference in the landscape between high and low tide is considerable, efforts have been made to make up for the shortcomings. A swimming pool has been installed over an area of 8,910 square meters, for swimming even during low tide. Also, various facilities have been installed for the visitors' convenience. A long, wooden bridge was installed for the viewing of the mud flats and sea creatures during low tide. On the mud flats there is a flurry of sea life, and the look-out sheds near the beach sell fresh summer fruits.

The main stone used to create the tomb is 710 centimeters long, 550 centimeters wide, and 260 centimeters high. The dolmen is an example of the northern dolmen customs, serving as a subject of further research in the field of ancient history. The Dolmen in Bugeun-ri is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage along with other significant dolmen sites.

Dolhalame Wishing Stone (Yeongcheon) (돌할매(영천))

Gyeongsangbukdo 417 Gwan-ri, Bugan-myeon, Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do Dolhalmae Wishing Stone, held in high esteem by locals for centuries, is believed to possess fortune-telling properties. Legend has it that if one attempts to lift the stone with both hands and succeeds, the wish will not materialize; however, if the stone remains immovable, the wish is destined to come true. This oval-shaped stone, measuring 25 centimeters in diameter and weighing approximately 10 kilograms, is the centerpiece of Dolhalmae Park, which also features various sculptures. Nearby, visitors can explore additional attractions such as Manbulsa Temple and Dogyeseowon Confucian Academy.
